If in doubt… Move!

Today could easily have been a day of lying around. After sleeping in and being brought tea in bed, the day was really set up for lazing about. It’s Easter Saturday after all! The temperature had dropped overnight, so even the weather was telling me that inside sipping tea was the place for me.

Again, I had options… Run, walk, weights, Wii… The list goes on. I could easily have sat down deciding for a while, then run out of time (I’m not sure that activity counts towards my commitment to myself to exercise for 30 minutes a day…). Some say that the thing successful people have in common is they never stop moving, apart from time to reflect. So, without hesitating I found the closest workout clothes and headed out the door, still not sure what I was going to do (although the Wii was not looking like the most likely option ). An invigorating 45 minute walk was the result, and I’m feeling fantastic.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for planning, but sometimes it’s best just to get going and work it out along the way.  Yogi Berra, a famous baseball player, once said ‘If you come to a fork in the road, take it’. What’s the worst thing that could happen? The option you choose might be a dead end or not work out at all, but at least you find it out rather than remain standing at the fork planning your next move.

I wonder what other things this approach can be applied to. Where can a potential stall be turned into massive action? Have a great Easter Saturday!
